What is a Sacrament?

A Sacrament is a summoning that was instituted by Christ, that brings us into a deeper relationship with Him. The Catholic Church holds that there are seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Matrimony, and Holy Orders. These acts or rites were instituted by Christ himself for the purpose of bestowing grace upon us, that we might enter into a deeper relationship with Him. The word Sacrament comes from the Latin word sacramentum, which means “a sign of the sacred.” The seven sacraments are ceremonies that point to what is sacred and significant for us as Christians. They are special occasions for experiencing God’s saving presence. To learn more, please click on each sacrament below.

Sacramental Preparation

If you are an Adult seeking to complete Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation – contact the parish office to learn more about RCIA.

Children of families registered at Saint Peter Parish receive sacraments according to a time frame established by the Director of Religious Education at Saint Peter. Regardless of whether the children attend public school, parochial school, or home-school, as a parish family our children all come together for the reception of sacraments.

Information pertaining to the reception of sacraments is shared at a Parent Sacrament Forum held each Fall at Saint Peter.

The purpose of the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is to assist the parents in the religious education of their children. This is done through weekly instruction in the basic doctrines of the Catholic Faith. These instructions include preparation to receive the sacraments of Penance, Eucharist and Confirmation, according to the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

All Catholic school teachers and Catechists complete Safe-Environment training mandated by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Questions about Sacramental Preparation should be directed to Krystal Snyder at the PREP Office: 610-384-3145 | prep@saintpeterchurch.net
